The Old Jail Art Center

The first permanent jail in Albany was built in 1878. In 1977 The Old Jail Foundation restored the ancient building to house the new Art Center. The Old Jail Foundation Art Center opened in 1980. The museum houses a surprising collection of exceptional art.
Exhibits include a donated collection of Chinese tomb figures dating from the third century B.C.; a collection of pre-Columbian art; paintings and sculptures including works by Henry Moore, Aristide Maillol, Pablo Picasso, Amadeo Modigliani, Giacomo Manzu and others.
